I've decided to stop being presumptuous on who could play Pez Outlaw in a movie.
That's just not up to me & pretending it is just seems crazy.
To be perfectly honest, I just don't care who they pick to play Pez Outlaw.

From The PR People About Pez Outlaw #pezoutlaw #ho...

Whatever choice of actor to play Pez Outlaw they make is fine with me.

Whatever story they decide to tell, I will support any n all decisions.
The project is bigger than choices of actor or direction of story.

If they go into the decade of depression that followed when I wrote Pez Outlaw Diary.
That's another emotional side.
The journey is the story.
I don't think about the things I fear
When it ends, they will seem small
Everything I've ever done has been to end up at this point
The man said, Nothing is impossible

Pez Outlaw only lived for ten years, The story about to be told is about him and really doesn't even use your name. Yet you gave up 20 years of your life to see this happen. By telling Pez Outlaws story maybe we'll understand.

Pez Outlaws story really is about that yearning in all of us for that life we dream of. Stepping out of the lot we are handed at birth in hopes of something better. Born in a cinder block house on the south side, my father hauled burn barrel ash and middle class folks trash for extra money. I dreamt of a big life, one better than the one I grew up in. Though I'm not sure I believed that life was actually possible. In the back of my mind I think I knew I'd just end up in the shop for 40 years like my father.

While working in the shop for 23 years I still dreamed every day of something better. Having that one big idea that took me to the life I desperately yearned for. To my complete surprise my dream came true.

In 1994 I left the shop and Pez Outlaw was born. I started by traveling all over the US and Canada followed by roughly 90 trips to Europe, South Africa and Australia. For over a decade I lived the life I'd dreamed of as a child. Then at the end of that decade this dream I'd built came crashing down around me.

I've spent the last 20 years trying to make sense of it all. I feel at times that I'm trapped in a story that I know the ending to but I'm just waiting for it to happen. I came very close to finishing his story (Pez Outlaw') roughly a year ago when WB optioned the movie.

Now I get up every day and work once again on fulfilling his (Pez Outlaw's) dream. I can't actually tell you why I do this any more than I can tell you why I lived his life for over a decade.
As was the case then, instinctively I do this because I must. I somehow and for some reason feel compelled to do something that I do not understand. All I know is that I must before I can rest.

Excerpt from “The Pez Outlaw,” Playboy, April 2015

By Jeff Maysh

PezPlayboySpread
A 1993 toy convention changed Steve’s life forever. As he tells it, a mysterious woman opened her jacket and showed him a Silver Glow Pez, a Holy Grail for Pez collectors.
She whispered to him in broken English, “There are many more where I come from.”
“Where did you get it?” asked Steve, hypnotized.
“Direct from factory in Slovenia,” she whispered.
“Where?”
“All you need to know is Kolinska.”
Steve had never left North America because of his intense fear of flying, but he agreed to go after being prodded by Joshua. They emptied their savings accounts, ordered emergency passports and on January 2, 1994 soared over the Swiss Alps in a twin-prop plane. “The pilot left the controls to serve drinks, and the turbulence was unreal,” Joshua recalls. His terrified father turned green.
It was worth it. In their minds, the streets of Slovenia would be paved with priceless Pez dispensers. Kolinska turned out to be the name not of a town but of a nondescript packaging facility. Joshua, the teetotaling star of his high school’s drama club and a resident advisor in college, drove them over Ljubljana’s romantic bridges and out of Slovenia’s capital.
It was a rare adventure for the father and son. “Dad would work so long and hard that he often fell asleep and crashed the truck. It was a struggle for him to make enough money for the family,” Joshua says. “He wasn’t an approachable guy.” Kathy had realized years earlier that Joshua had inherited his father’s obsessive nature: The teenager bought M&Ms wholesale and undercut the Boy Scouts’ prices, adding to his college savings.
But Kolinska was not the Pez jackpot the Americans had envisioned. The warehouse owners explained that they had a few pieces for sale, but the real Pez nirvana was a plastics plant in Ormoz˘, Slovenia, where the dispensers were manufactured. The factory bordered Croatia, however, where a war for independence was raging. “You should not go there,” they warned.
Steve couldn’t be dissuaded.
“Which way is it?”
The 100-mile-long freeway to Ormoz˘ was one of the most dangerous routes in Europe, and the Glews crisscrossed perilously high bridges and dodged horse-drawn carts. When they arrived in Ormoz˘ the industrial smog was so thick they could barely see the two-story building, further obscured by tall pine trees.
A worker led Steve and Joshua across a catwalk suspended above the factory floor. Below them, thermoplastic machines roared and hissed, producing dispensers with a satisfying thump-thump-thump. “The repetition and sheer volume of product was hypnotizing for guys like us,” recalls Joshua. In a secret laboratory a worker smoked a tiny cigarette while hunched over the latest Pez creations. A starstruck Joshua asked for his autograph, and the embarrassed worker said he “felt like Elvis.” They all laughed, and the worker’s code name was born.
“Elvis was a frustrated genius, a wild card who was always doing experiments with Pez,” recalls Steve. “But his bosses in Austria always rejected them. I told him that in America, collectors would go nuts for these experiments.”
In this plastic Valhalla, shelves overflowed with prototypes and a cast of rejected characters. Steve sweated with excitement: The pursuit of Pez had now taken over his life. A leading expert on compulsive-collecting disorders, Mark McKinley describes this behavior as “repetitive acquisition syndrome.” “Extreme collecting is a psychopathological form of collecting,” he says, and it can even result in “breaking laws, hurting people, going to the poor house.”
Steve ordered Joshua to fetch the cash from their car, telling him, “Bring it all. Just bring it all.” As Joshua crossed the catwalk, alone and invisible to the workers below, he danced a happy dance all the way over.
Elvis showed Steve a Santa Claus dispenser with a black face. “I nearly fell over,” says Steve. Pez bosses had scrapped the idea, but Steve knew that Black Santa was the Pez de rĂ©sistance. He bought as many as he could carry, filling a military sack with them and a trove of other plastic treasures.
So when the Austrian guards stopped Steve and Joshua at the Hungarian border and threatened to confiscate the toys, the Glews fled east to Budapest, bringing their Black Santas with them. Back in the U.S. the dispensers sold for hundreds of dollars each, and Steve vowed to return to Europe, next time with serious money.

Still waiting on a Book offer From a Publishing House.
My dream is that I have written enough here in the Asylum n Pez Outlaw Diary, that a very good editor can find the Book.
If not that a Good Ghost Writer can use a bunch of what I've written n fill in the weak spots.
The only real way to contact me is on Facebook as I do not talk on telephones n have never sent or gotten an email.
Facebook Private messages only. I never open links or messages on twitter.

I post this message to Book Publishers For good reason.
Something that you don't know. Bryan n Amy Storkel told me that they would have contacted me years earlier about Making The Pez Outlaw Movie, but they thought no way this story isn't already under contract.
So Book Publishers, I am not under contract for The Pez Outlaw Book.

Can you believe it? I won Best actor at the SXSW Film Festival.

I'm beginning to open my eyes to the world again after what seems a coma. I closed my eyes 20 years ago & ignored the world in pursuit of an obsession I could not describe or explain. Tonight, I realized for maybe the 1st time the sacrifice.

You may not agree but 50 years old is a very young man when you look at it from 73. When I got back from the SXSW Film Festival, I broke down telling Darlin Girl, I made it. Was it planned? Did I actually know what I was Doing? Or is this what finally losing your mind looks like after clinging to reality by your fingertips for so long?

I wish that I knew the answer.

My quarter century journey began in bitterness at loss, failure & desperation. I wish I could say I planned everything, But obsession ruled the day. Now I realize I gave the reins to an uncontrollable desire, an inability not to Fight back.

I didn't have the skills to begin my journey so I taught them to myself. I work in public because then I know if I'm headed in the right direction or not. Yup trial & error was my teacher.

Tonight I Blinked, because that's how you wake up from a dream if you want to. Everybody knows that. I woke from my 20 year slumber to something once again I do not understand. A world where people watch a movie that I'm in Then I sit on a stage & talk to people like I have something interesting to say. Wait a minute I watch movie, I'm not in them.

Now you tell me that I'm not in that Looney Bin I interviewed for back in 69. Then somebody gives me an award for acting, Oh pull the other one. All I did was what was asked of me.

Yes, I woke to a dream. A dream I prayed 20 years for. I believe it's real because I really want it to be true. I owe her that. If it is real it's only because she allowed me to do this truly absurd thing. Darlin Girl has always been there to guide me on this journey I've never been equipped to handle. If this is actually happening & not a fantasy, I hope I can make her eyes sparkle like watching a sunrise.

Back in 98 I failed her in a most spectacular manner. Of course I did no half measures, all in, boom or bust. Will I do better this Time?

In For A Penny.

Very nervous n anxious today.
Eyes all bugy.
No specific reason just is.
I guess this is just how what is happening feels.
There is a very funny thing about all this.
At times it scares the hell outa you, but does that make you slow it down. Oh Hell no. You toss gas on the fire.
Old habits.

As you know by now, I hope, there are a lot of things I'm not terribly comfortable with.
Well suck it up Bubba. It's not about you, it's HIM n The Movie.
So at many moments I will be stepping out of My comfort zone.
So many people have given so much to The Pez Outlaw Movie.
I can not freeze up n let everybody down.
So far, every time that I've asked Pez Outlaw to come out n play, He has shown up. Thank God for that anyway.

Terry Bradshaw n Tiny Horses
There is no such thing as a FREE Horse!
"Free" Horses usually come with with a pretty good Vet Bill.
Mind you I'm not complaining, actually I'm Fixin to tell you what I think is a funny story.
BlackHawk/Hawk/Hawkeye came to us recently with a bum leg, so our dear Friend Dr Katie has been here last few days. Dr Katie, her assistant n Darlin Girl were all in the Horse stall workin on him.
In I came, Launching into a story about something I saw somewhere about Perfectly formed very tiny horses in a show ring With Terry Bradshaw.
Oh wait I guess that was a dream, huh. Kept talkin about how cute those Tiny horses n how cute they were. You guessed it stares of ......
Thing is, you make a movie n talk to folks it would appear they love it. In the Barn Darlin Girl n Dr Katie wish I'd quit bothering them.
Oh n of course it was Terry Bradshaw showing one of those Tiny Horses in my Dream, Love that guy.

Later That Evening

I was tellin Darlin Girl Kathy about some drill holders I made in the shop. Told her might need to make more cause you need more long drills on the farm. I think I was a little to excited in the tellin, cause she gave me a funny look. Like baby you don't chase other women (never Have) so if this is what excites you, I'm all for it.
Seemed a funny in my head.
Old people Jokes.

Coming Attractions

Cleveland, Phoenix, Detroit, Milwaukee, etc.
I wish I could be there with all of you at each n every one of the premieres. But I just checked my pockets n yup Lint. Though I think that I was invited to one of them as a guest (means they pay, Free Starbucks n Donuts I'm there).
Did you know I can drink 2 Starbucks double shot expresso coffees n take a nap? True story. Oh yeah n Donuts are a Vegetable.

Pez Outlaw, Hollywood or Bust #pezoutlaw

Please Watch My Emmy Winning Movie, The Pez Outlaw on Amazon Prime & Peacock. 100% on Rotten Tomatoes. Best actor at SXSW.

It's My Story.

ebay link to Pez Outlaw Collectibles.

I heard a Marx Brothers story about how they set a small fire so the smoke would go under Irving Thalberg's office door, trying to get his attention.I suppose it's not real hard to find the parallel with my actions promoting Pez Outlaw.

I believe I'm good talking about what I want, just not what's actually happening.
Which by the way is to bad because I think the second thing would be entertaining.

Here we go again.
When I think of Pez Outlaw Goes To Hollywood I always connect imagery of an Abbott n Costello Movie.
Hollywood or Bust Does though remind me of Joshua n I driving all over Europe hunting for Pez n the Pez Warehouses.
Cab drivers leading the way as we followed.
Before we found our destinations we found Shoe Factories.
We found a factory that made a similar product but not Pez.
Finally we set our eyes on the smokestacks in Hungary that towered over OZ.
Slovenia was easy, found Kolinska on the 3rd try.
Kolinska then led straight to Ormoz.

These trips were Josh n my Abbott n Costello trips.
Definitely Pez Warehouses or Bust.
Next stop Hollywood for ole Josh n Me.
We'll find it after a few tries, we always do.

When Pez Outlaw is turned into a movie.
I wonder how the story will be told.
Who would play Pez Outlaw?
Though neither matters.
I'd be good with whatever.

Would my world change if a movie was made of Pez Outlaw?
I don't know.
The April Playboy article about Pez Outlaw realistically had zero effect on my life.
Would the effect be different if Pez Outlaw was a movie?

The reason that the Playboy article had no effect beyond the occasional comment that the person in front of me read it is.
I live a life of isolation, Short of the folks that come here to ride horses.
Even then the conversations were very short.
Did you like it? Always Yes. Huh, OK, Good.
Within minute we move on, because you know they came here for horses n the comment was just polite recognition.

Beyond that my life of isolation shielded me from any other ????
I'm sure if Pez Outlaw was a Movie things might get a little weird for a year.
Then again, the only people welcome here are a very select few n all have very good manners.
Outsiders are not welcome. Looky Looo's are shoooed away. I kinda get rude n to the point.

Other than writing here in Notes From The Asylum my life is that of a low level worker here on the farm.
Think of it this way, it'd be like people rushing up on EB from Green Acres like he was some kind of a big deal.
It make for good writing on a half hour comedy like Green Acres, but obserd in the real world.
I'd be willing to bet ya folks would weary of trying to follow old EB while he mows the trails or moves horse manure down the hill.

Pez Outlaw is a very interesting character who lived a decade worth viewing.
Me, I'm just a funny looking old man on a tractor.

I believe what happens to you depends on how you view what's happening.
Things can only affect you if you take them in.

I've seen folks who get all wired tight about Hooo Haaa.
Start thinking that they are a deal.
It does not end well.

Pez Outlaw is the repository for something that happened.
After 20 years I might be his caretaker but I'm a very different person now.
Where Pez Outlaw flew high, I have been humbled.

I will help the various Pez Outlaw Projects in any way I can be useful.
But I will never read the Playboy Article.
I will never read a Pez Outlaw Book after the work of writing it is completed.
I will never go see the Pez Outlaw Movie.
I can't, because I just can not look into Mirrors, it really messes up my mind.
I can only deal with the me I project, I can not deal with the me you perceive.

My brain is a very delicate ecosystem, I've learned how things must go to protect it n I do not mess with that.
The road to who I am today was very difficult, I will not jeopardize all the hard work.

Things needed can be done but must be done a certain way.
Example, I will never talk on a telephone. Kathy will.
I will though talk through facebook.

Travel must be curb to curb, only required stops.
No meals anywhere, except what Kathy hands me.
I need to not be away from my property 1 second longer than absolutely required.
I can't do any of it without Kathy to keep me squared away/for balance.
If you let Kathy help, you will be very happy with the outcome.
Sometimes she has to tell me when I'm messing up.
She does it easily, from others I take it wrong.
You tell her, she smacks me, I'm good.

I can shake other peoples hands but I really would prefer not to.
If handshaking is required, gloves would be nice.

You get me as I am, I do not dress up for anybody.
Meaning I wear sweatshirts n jeans, no exceptions.

Other than that, anything I can do to help.

After Pez Outlaw, I intend to retire.

Andy Warhol / Pez Outlaw #pezoutlaw

Please Watch My Emmy Winning Movie, The Pez Outlaw on Amazon Prime & Peacock. 100% on Rotten Tomatoes. Best actor at SXSW.

It's My Story.

ebay link to Pez Outlaw Collectibles.

To look at me you most likely would never guess that one of my Heroes is Andy Warhol.
It's really about the sense of presence that he projected, I admire his freedom of spirit.
I find myself thinking in referance to him probably more than any other person.

Andy Warhol's philosophy that life is Art is probably our strongest link.
Life as performance Art hits very close to home.
And the dread of the possible reality of 15 minutes of fame.

Lacey Ash    art of Pez Outlaw

I try to live each day for itself.
I try to think as little as possible, nothing good comes from it.
I try to lead a quiet life.
I prefer to keep the number of people I have contact with at a minimum.

Do the things each day that need to be done, Then rest.

The last 5 years or so my thoughts keep returning to Andy Warhol.
We all seem to be acting out our lives on facebook.
Can you imagine what Andy Warhol would have done with facebook if it had been around in his heyday.
Andy Warhol's claim of people getting there 15 minutes of fame n facebook proving it.

In true Andy Warhol fashion I prefer Playing in Public.
I kinda like Warhol's idea of Life as Art, which I think is why my thoughts keep returning to him..

Mentally engaging the possible, Real or not.
Life is so short. Why in God's name would you ever take it serious.

"Notes From The Asylum" is an exercise in Life As Art.
I've been turning the news off earlier every day n tuning to Willies Road House.
It's not that the news is all bad, just Blah.
tedious n tiresome.
Same goes for TV at night, very very few shows worth watching.
ABC blocked it's signal, not sure I care.
Colony, JLo etc, Jesus Who Cares.
I've been watching Dr Who since the 1970s, The new guy, Yawn.
Downton Abby final season, should've ended last year except for Maggie Smith.
Blue Bloods, Hawaiie five O, Why.
To many TV yawn-fests to mention.

TV used to be my leisure activity, now it's Notes from The Asylum.
